Gordon pledges fiscal responsibility, legislature may not agree

Governor Mark Gordon promised fiscal responsibility in his inaugural remarks, but state legislative leaders appear poised to stop tightening the purse strings. In opening remarks, House Speaker Steve Harshman of Casper says the state can’t cut its way to prosperity. He pointed to $400 million in cuts to state spending and the state’s workforce that’s the smallest in a decade. Senate President Drew Perkins says he’d like to see a 5 percent statewide lodging tax.
