Video slot machine companies challenge AG opinion

Companies that operate video slot machines inside Wyoming bars are challenging the attorney general’s opinion that says they’re forms of illegal gambling. Wyoming Skills LLC says the games include an element of skill that exempts them from state gambling law. But Attorney General Peter Michael said in a December 11 opinion that some spins are predetermined losers, and operators keep a percentage of wagers, making the video machines a form of illegal gambling.

Burglary convict escapes Casper Re-Entry Center

An inmate escapes from the Casper Re-Entry Center. Richard Fountaine, II, 29, went missing Friday night. The Casper Star-Tribune reports he was convicted of burglary in Park County and sentenced to three to five years in prison last year. He’s considered dangerous.

Skiers return to Antelope Butte Mountain

A small ski area in the Bighorn Mountains has opened for the first time in 14 years. The Sheridan Press reports skiers returned to the slopes at Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area Friday.

Report: WY has third-highest number of workplace deaths in nation

Wyoming’s workplace deaths exceed the national average in 2017. A state report shows 20 people died while on the job last year. That’s down from 27 deaths in 2016. But it’s still the third-highest rate in the nation, behind only Alaska and North Dakota. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports motor vehicle crashes have been a major contributor to workplace deaths-with many involving out-of-state drivers who aren’t familiar with Wyoming’s tough terrain and extreme weather. High-risk jobs in the oil and gas industry also are a factor.

Teton County sex offender back behind bars

A convicted sex offender is back behind bars at the Teton County jail. The Jackson Hole News and Guide reports 19-year-old Xavier Dyess failed to abide by the terms of his probation. He was convicted in 2016 of fondling a child at his parents’ home day care business.

A nationwide CenturyLink internet outage is affecting Verizon Customers-and the Wyoming Lottery. WyoLotto says it would postpone announcing winning state lottery numbers Thursday until the outage was over.

Police looking for Jackson man who allegedly sexually assaulted a child

Jackson Police need your help finding a man who they say sexually abused a child. Police tell the Jackson Hole News & Guide that 27-year-old Marco Moreno-Castro was working as a dishwasher in Jackson. They say he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 14 in September of 2017. They add he’s known to have family in the Blackfoot, Idaho area.

4 missing snowmobilers found safe in Snow Range mountains

Four snowmobilers who went missing in the Snow Range Mountains have been found safe. The Albany County sheriff’s office says a search helicopter spotted the four men from South Dakota Wednesday, and they appeared to be in good health. The helicopter was unable to land in the rugged terrain, so they dropped them supplies and came back for them Wednesday. The men were reported missing Sunday after not checking into their Albany lodge as planned.

3rd skier-triggered avalanche in backcountry injures woman’s wrist

Yet another skier is caught in a skier-triggered avalanche marking the third this week in the backcountry south of Jackson Hole Mountain ski resort. The Jackson Hole News and Huide reports sheriff’s deputies say the skier was carried through a chute near Broken Branch. Rescuers had to dig her out, and she was taken to the hospital with an injured wrist. Earlier this week a skier hurt his hip in the Spacewalk Couloir.

4 snow mobile riders remain missing in Snow Range mountains

The search continues for four snowmobile riders from South Dakota who are missing in Wyoming’s Snow Range mountains. The Albany County Sheriff’s department says the men were last seen Saturday afternoon. They were reported missing Sunday after they failed to check into their lodge in Albany. Overcast skies and snow have hampered search and rescue operations.
